The Libyan Presidential Council has welcomed the humanitarian call by foreign countries for a halt of hostilities to allow authorities in the country to respond to the threats of Coronavirus.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Presidential Council said it was keen for the safety of all Libyans wherever they are, adding that it was working with the Health Ministry to impose preventive measures across Libya.

The Presidential Council called for supporting the efforts aiming at keeping the Coronavirus pandemic away from Libya, reiterating commitment to the conclusions of Berlin conference, including a halt of hostilities and protection of civilians.

"We are keen on ceasefire but we retain our right to respond to any daily attacks against civilians as well as civilian infrastructure. It's necessary that the aggressor is directly instructed to stop crimes and violations." The statement reads.

It also called for urgently reopening oil fields and ports to resume oil production and exports under the oversight of National Oil Corporation, adding that the shutdown of the only source of revenue for all Libyans is harming everyone without exception.

Khalifa Haftar's forces carried out violent attacks on different frontlines on Wednesday, the most violent in months, targeting as well civilian neighborhoods with indiscriminate rockets leading to deaths and injuries among civilians.
