The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has called on the UNSMIL to take vital actions as opposed to statements of condemnation to protect civilians in Tripoli against the repeated attacks on residential areas by Khalifa Haftar's forces.

This comes hours after two sisters were killed and their brother was injured by Haftar's forces shelling on Salah Al-Deen in southern Tripoli.

"We condemned in the strongest terms Haftar's militias shelling on residential buildings in Salah Al-Deen one week after a similar crime in Fernaj neighborhood that killed three child sisters." The Presidential Council said in a statement on Tuesday.

It added that Haftar's forces have gotten encouraged to commit such crimes because of the absence of firm and deterrent international stances, blaming the UNSMIL for the attack.

It added that Presidential Council's government is documenting these crimes and will coordinate with legal and humanitarian organizations around the world to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Presidential Council added that such crimes have become systematic and that they aim to terrorize civilians in Tripoli in a blatant violation of the international humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, Tripoli-based House of Representatives issued a statement condemning the killing of the children by Haftar's forces and called on Presidential Council to document the crimes to send them to the International Criminal Court and other international organizations. It also called on UNSMIL and its Head Ghassan Salame to take measures to protect civilians.
