The Presidential Council of Libya has condemned in a statement the airstrike on a field hospital in southern Tripoli, where five medics have been killed and eight others injured.

The statement on Sunday said the targeting of hospitals and civilian properties and facilities have become systematic saying it is a violation of the international humanitarian law, human rights laws and is a war crime.

"The relevant authorities are documenting these crimes so that the perpetrators and their seniors who gave orders are brought to justice inside and outside Libya. We call on the international community to assume responsibility toward the crimes of the attacking militias." The statement adds.

It also said that the Libyan Army is going to exercise the legitimate right of defending Tripoli and its residents against the attackers with full adherence to international humanitarian law and war conventions.

A warplane of Khalifa Haftar's forces hit Saturday night a field hospital on the Airport Road in southern Tripoli killing five medics and injuring eight others.

This is the third field hospital to be hit by airstrikes by Haftar's forces after Ain Zara and Al-Sawani.
