The Libyan Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that it had arrested the individuals involved in abusing Egyptian workers - as shown in many videos posted on social media - and they were placed under interrogation before being sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further legal action.

The Interior Ministry said judicial apparatus personnel apprehended the individuals Tuesday after recognizing the area where the abuse acts were taped.

The Ministry said it had identified the Egyptian workers, saying they are all now in good condition and going about their days freely and adding that they would be asked to deliver statements to the police about the abuses they had suffered to ensure justice is served against the abusers.

"Libyan and Egyptian people have historic ties and individual acts cannot wipe history away. Politics tensions between countries cannot be translated to abuse and violations against the peoples of those countries." The statement reads.

After a video was posted on social media of a group of Egyptian workers being abused, the Interior Ministry said last Sunday it had started investigating the incident to detain the perpetrators.
