Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha

The Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha has arrived in Egypt upon a formal invitation from Cairo as part of the cooperation between the two countries in security fields.

Bashagha said Wednesday he was keen on constructive cooperation with Egypt in bolstering security and stability in Libya, adding he was looking forward to improving strategic relations with Egypt.

He indicated that the visit to Cairo also comes as part of uniting efforts to confront war and organized crime as well as terrorism to maintain the joint national security of Libya and Egypt.

Bashagha hailed the invitation of Egypt for the cooperation with Libya in security, peace and stability amid the ongoing efforts for solution in war-torn Libya.

Meanwhile, Youm7 newspaper in Egypt said Bashagha would discuss dismantling militias and reintegration of the fighters into state military and police institutions.

This is Bashagha's first visit to Egypt since he became Interior Minister in October 2018. The visit also comes after the end of military commission talks in Ghadames, where the delegations agreed on mechanisms for withdrawal of forces from Sirte and Jufra.
