The Libyan High Council of State and Tripoli-based House of Representatives have both called on the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj to delay submitting his resignation for now.

The Head of the High Council of State Khalid Al-Mishri urged in a letter to Al-Sarraj that the latter continues in his post until a new presidential council is elected so that Libya avoids political vacuum.

Al-Mishri also cited a Skhirat Agreement article that says that the vacancy of the Prime Minister's post leads to the resignation of the entire cabinet, adding that Al-Sarraj should now delay his resignation.

He indicated that Al-Sarraj shouldn't submit his resignation now amid the exceptional situation in Libya currently amid the ongoing political dialogue which aims to bring about consensus on forming a new presidential council and holding elections as soon as possible.

The House of Representatives in Tripoli also called on Al-Sarraj to delay his resignation for the greater good of the country, urging him to brief the council on the latest political developments at the November 02 meeting.

Al-Sarraj said in a statement last month that he would step down from his post by the end of October to allow the political process to form new authorities agreed upon by all Libyans.
