The Libyan High Council of State has conditioned joining the UN-led political dialogue to the success of the military track, which is the meetings of the joint 5+5 military commission, and to the ceasefire as well as the return of Khalifa Haftar's forces to their previous positions as before April 04 2019.

In a HCS session on Sunday, the Head of the council Khalid Al-Mishri reiterated this call and said choosing to go to the Geneva political dialogue isn't coming from their inability to defeat the aggressor but out of the need to stop the bloodshed and find a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis, adding that military operations are still an option if the aggressor continues the attacks and refuses to withdraw.

The HCS is supposed to engage in political negotiations with the House of Representatives as well as other political personalities to be selected by UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame in Geneva.

So many Libyans have spoken out against this negotiations track as it remains bleak in its talks' subjects and the expected results, with a majority of Libyans rejecting Salame's proposal of Independent personalities to be present at the talks.

On Tuesday, Salame said UNSMIL aims to reach a permanent ceasefire in Libya via the meetings of the joint 5+5 military commission.

In a press conference in Geneva, Salame added that the commission sessions started with separate meetings for every delegation of the Libyan parties and that the top officers from both sides expressed willingness to announce a ceasefire agreement.
