The Libyan Health Ministry has condemned targeting medical personnel in the ongoing fighting in Tripoli, urging the UNSMIL, International Committee of the Red Cross, World Health Organization (WHO), Red Crescent and all humanitarian organizations to condemn it.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry called on the Libyan Public Prosecutor to investigate the incidents as war crimes since ambulances are well known and notices by warring parties, saying targeting them has been done repetitively and intentionally.
"All parties should work together to protect civilians." The statement adds.
In the meantime, WHO announced Friday that Dr. Rami Abdelrazzak was killed, along with another paramedic, after his ambulance had been hit by shells in Tripoli, calling on warring parties to protect the medics not target them.
The ambulance of the killed doctor was for the field hospital in Ain Zara in southern Tripoli and it was targeted as he and his colleague were evacuating injured persons amid clashes.
Field medicine apparatus also condemned targeting the ambulance and considered it a war crime, urging for the protection of medics and paramedics who are providing humanitarian assistance in the clashes' zones.
