The Head of the Government of National Accord's (GNA) military delegation at the 5+5 commission talks in Geneva Ahmed Abu Shahma said they won't give up the call for the withdrawal of Khalifa Haftar's forces to their previous positions before the offensive against Tripoli in April 2019.

Abu Shahma told reporters that GNA's delegation didn't agree or sign any draft in Geneva, adding that their notes to the UNSMIL either get accepted as a package or rejected altogether; "no partition," he remarked.

Abu Shahma also said that all the sacrifices of Libyans won't be forgotten when such negotiations take place, adding that they take no responsibility for the bloodshed caused by the stubbornness of Khalifa Haftar.

"We have discussed with the UNSMIL ceasefire and return of the displaced to their houses." He explained.

Meanwhile, UNSMIL said in a statement Monday that a second round of the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission (JMC) talks concluded on February 23 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva in the presence of UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame

"UNSMIL and the two parties prepared a draft ceasefire agreement to facilitate the safe return of civilians to their areas with the implementation of a joint monitoring mechanism under the auspices of UNSMIL and the JMC." It said.

It added that the two parties had agreed to present the draft agreement to their respective leaderships for further consultations and to meet again next month to resume the discussions and complete the preparation of the Terms of Reference of the sub-committees in charge of the implementation of the agreement.

In the meantime, embassies of France, UK, US, Germany and Italy said in a statement on Tuesday that they were looking forward to the kickoff of UN-led political talks in Geneva on Wednesday.

While, the High Council of State and Tripoli-based House of Representatives announced on Monday suspension of participation at the political talks in Geneva until tangible progress comes out of the military talks. Likewise, the Tobruk-based HoR suspended Geneva participation, citing intervention by the UNSMIL in the decision-making process.
