The Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) has decided to allow Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha to resume his work after almost a week of suspension.
The suspension decision of the Presidential Council was tied to investigating Bashagha for his orders to secure Tripoli and other cities' protests and the consequent events.
The Presidential Council issued Thursday an order saying Bashagha would assume his post as an Interior Minister effective immediately.
Afterwards, Bashagha said in a video statement that he had gone to the investigation session in time at the GNA headquarters in Tripoli in the presence of Head of Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj and the members. He said the session took five hours.
Bashagha indicated that the questions asked to him revolved around the protests and their security procedures as well as the role of the Interior Ministry in the process of securing the protests which took place over the last week in Tripoli and other cities.
Bashagha also said that he had reiterated the unity of security and military apparatuses under the Presidential Council's command.
