The Foreign Minister of the Libyan Presidential Council's government Mohammed Sayala discussed with the Chief of UNHCR Filippo Grandi, sending immigrants to their countries or third countries.

Sayala and Grandi met on the sidelines of the 73 UN General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministry's media office said.

They both agreed that the UNHCR would bear the financial cost of repatriating the illegal immigrants from Libya.

Grandi vowed to work on evacuating all immigrants from Libya as soon as possible.

Sayala invited Grandi for a visit to Libya to have a closer look at the situation.

Meanwhile, The EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said Thursday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that over 30,000 immigrants have been "freed from Libya detention centers."

Mogherini said that this was made possible thanks to cooperation and multilateralism between the UN, the EU, and the African Union, ANSA reported.
