116 illegal immigrants have been reported missing and 132 others rescued by the Libyan coastguards and local fishermen as a wooden boat has capsized off Al-Khums shores - eastern Tripoli.

The Libyan Navy spokesman Ayoub Qassim confirmed Thursday that over 200 immigrants had been on the rickety boat.

UNHCR said earlier that up to 150 migrants were feared dead, saying 150 others could have been rescued.

UNHCR and other agencies reiterated the needed for sending the immigrants to other countries not to Libya as it is witnessing armed conflicts.

UNHCR spokesman Charlie Yaxley said local fishermen recovered the survivors from the sea and Libyan coastguards returned to the country's land.
