The Libyan ambassador to the UN, Al-Mahdi Al-Mijirbi said Tuesday that the attack that has been launched by Khalifa Haftar against Tripoli since April 04 is a coup against legitimacy and undermines the political process, adding that it aims to bring Libya back to totalitarian and military rule.

At the UN Security Council, Al-Mijirbi added that negotiations' principles have changed after the "cowardly aggression of Haftar."

He said the Presidential Council's government believes that the international community must name things as they stand in Libya, that is; condemning the attackers and obliging them to return to their previous positions.

"There is no logic in likening the attacker to the defender and thus there is no logic behind a ceasefire without the retreat of the attacking forces to their status quo positions. We have gone into war to defend the innocent people of Tripoli and the Libyans' hopes for democratic and civilian state." He explained.

Al-Mijirbi accused countries - without naming them - of supporting the attacking forces with weapons and drones as well as cutting edge vehicles and missiles in violation of the UN arms embargo.

The UN Security Council held a session on Tuesday on Libya and the UN envoy Ghassan Salame provided a briefing for the attendees about the current conditions amid Tripoli fighting.
