The High Council of State (HCS) has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the relocation of American embassy there.

In a statement on Thursday, the HCS said the recognition is a blatant challenge to the feelings of Muslims and a violation of the international resolutions, which regard Jerusalem as an occupied territory.

“This step is clear bias to so-called racist Israel; it will undermine any initiative for peace and stability in the region,” read the statement.

The HCS called on the international community, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to adopt a clear action to halt Trump’s decision to preserve balance and stability of the region.

“We call on all Libyans and Muslims to march peacefully to denounce this decision,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of Presidential Council, Mohammed Sayala, called for a collective action against Trump’s decision, declaring that Libya will take part in the meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on December 10, 12 to address the US recognition.

In the eastern region of the country, the government of Abdullah Al-Thanni deplored Trump’s recognition, warning in a statement on Wednesday that the recognition would have dire consequences on the Americans in the region.

“Being busy with their internal affairs, a number of Arab countries, including Libya, will not forget their first cause, which is the liberation of occupied Palestine from the grip of the brutal Zionists”. A government statement remarked.

On Wednesday, Libya’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani called all Muslims to go on mass protests against Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He said during his weekly program on Tanasuh TV that the Jewish takeover of Jerusalem is a crime against Muslims and Christians.
