The Libyan Scholars Association has urged residents of the eastern region to mend fences and "overcome the bloodshed they were thrown into by the warlord Khalifa Haftar".

In a statement issued on Saturday, the scholars called on Libyans and in particular those in the eastern region to pay attention to what is being hatched around them.

"We hope our brothers in the eastern region will hear the voice of reason and reject regional and tribalism intolerance that seeks narrow interests." calling on the community to adhere to unity and refuse partition attempts.

They also denounced the statements of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on threatening to interfere in Libya.

"Sisi was clear about his intention to use force against Libyans and he was unequivocal in his determination to support war criminal Haftar, who turned against an internationally recognized government."

The statement noted that the "Egyptian military ruler" statements are a link in the attempts of the "axis of evil" states to establish the pillars of tyranny in a country that rose up to end the era of dictatorship and build a civil state.
