The Libyan Navy has rescued 235 illegal immigrants of different nationalities in three separate operations in the west of the country.

The spokesman of the Libyan Navy, Brigadier General Ayoub Qasim, clarified that the first rescue operation took place in an area between the oil fields of Al-Bouri and Salam Sea, some 50 miles north of Zwara city. 45 illegal immigrants, including seven women and one child, were picked up from a wooden boat in the middle of the sea.

The second rescue operation took place about 47 miles north of Al-Khoms city east of the capital Tripoli, where 90 illegal immigrants were rescued from aboard a rubber boat.

The third rescue operation was carried out 22 miles north-west of Al-Khoms and included 100 migrants, among them, were 9 Libyans.

The migrants were provided with humanitarian and medical assistance before being handed over to the migrant centre in Tajoura.
