The Libyan Navy Force said Tuesday it had sent the arrested Tunisian anglers from Al-Zawiya port to Libya’s Navy Base in Abu Sitta for thorough investigation.

The spokesman of the Libyan Navy Force, Ayoub Qassim, said the coastguards transferred 54 Tunisian fishermen to Tripoli after being arrested aboard three trawlers a week ago.

The Libyan coastguards intercepted four trawlers for Tunisian anglers last Tuesday after they entered the Libyan territorial waters off Milita shores, 120 km western Tripoli and 160 km away from Tunisia’s border.

The fishermen were then taken to Al-Zawiya port after skirmishes between them and the Libyan coastguards leading to injuring one coastguard and one Tunisian fisherman, besides one trawler broke down.

Last December, the Libyan coastguards intercepted 7 Tunisian trawlers in the Libyan waters off Zuwara shores and arrested 47 members onboard in addition to 600 boxes full of fishes before some other trawlers had sailed back to the Tunisian waters.
