The Grand Libyan Mufti Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani has condemned the airstrikes on Derna and the recent Abyar massacre of nearly 40 innocent people, describing both crimes as “dreadful”.

In his weekly program on Tanasuh TV Wednesday, the Mufti offered his condolences to the families of the victims in Derna and Benghazi and asked for practical actions to be taken to put an end to such crimes, stressing that more must be done beyond condemnations.

He said that what happened in Derna may occur in any other city, calling on the Libyans to take to the streets and do not stand idly by while violations are taking place.

He pointed out that the negative consequences of many previous issues prove that there is no investigation of crimes in reality amid the absence of a functioning judiciary, in which many cases are still awaiting to be revealed.
