The Libyan Foreign Ministry has responded to the statements made by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said the Government of National Accord (GNA) was "lacking desire to sign ceasefire agreement and after military solutions", saying the GNA has always been supporter of peaceful solutions via negotiations.

In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said the Russian-Turkey ceasefire agreement was signed by the GNA but rejected by Khalifa Haftar who left then the meetings to embarrass his allies in Moscow.

The Foreign Ministry reminded Russia of Berlin Conference, saying the GNA welcomed its conclusions and follow-up military 5+5 meetings, which were also violated by Haftar's forces.

GNA's Foreign Ministry added that it needs not remind Russian Foreign Minister that Haftar's aggression on Tripoli was 10 days before Ghadames conference under the auspices of the UN, which means that Haftar is not looking for peaceful solutions and is awaiting an opportunity to carry out a coup against legitimacy in the country.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Haftar "is ready to sign a ceasefire agreement in Libya, accusing the Government of National Accord (GNA) of "lacking desire to sign it too".

Lavrov's remarks came in a virtual meeting he held with his counterparts from Egypt, Congo and South Africa, according to Russian news agency TASS.

"When we called on the main leaders in Libya, Haftar, Al-Sarraj and Aqila Saleh in last January, Haftar's forces weren't ready to sign ceasefire agreement as they thought they were the strongest party on the ground, while Al-Sarraj thought it was acceptable to sign." Lavrov said.
