The Libyan Foreign Ministry has refuted circulation news that says a group loyal to Khalifa Haftar has seized control of Libyan embassy in Cairo, Egypt, saying on Tuesday that the embassy is operating as usual.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry added that some people had stormed into the embassy building and tried to extort the staffers at the embassy for money, saying the assaulting persons were controlled and sent out of the embassy.

Pro-Haftar media outlets reported diplomatic sources at the Cairo embassy as saying that several staffers shut down the building and gave the Libyan chargé d'affaires Fawzi Nashnoush 72 hours to boycott the Presidential Council and announce his loyalty to Tobruk-based House of Representatives and Haftar's command.

The media outlets added that a similar move would take place at the headquarters of Libya's mission at the Arab League in Cairo.

At the beginning of Haftar's attack on Tripoli last April, a similar issue took place at the Cairo embassy as some pro-Haftar people shut down the embassy and claimed to have controlled it and that they are loyal to the House of Representatives in Tobruk and its Interim Government in the east. Not long later, the Libyan Foreign Ministry said it had regained control of the embassy and reopened it in cooperation with Egyptian authorities.
