The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, reaffirmed Washington's support for elections on December 24 to address Libyans’ expectations.

His remarks came in a meeting with the Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush on the margins of her visit to Tunisia, according to the US embassy in Libya.

The US embassy said Al-Mangoush shared her Ministry’s support for Libyan elections, including participation by Libyans living abroad, discussing as well regional diplomacy aimed at implementing the June 23 Berlin ministerial meeting by reducing foreign military presence and preventing Libya from being used as a platform to destabilize the region.

The US embassy said earlier that no foreign country can choose the upcoming Libyan government, reiterating support for fair and free elections in the country.
