The spokesman of Khalifa Haftar’s forces Ahmed Al-Mismari has threatened once again to end the Libyan crisis by military actions by the end of this year if the politicians would not reach a solution to the crisis.

Al-Mismari’s statements came hours after the statement of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, who said elections in Libya will be held in 2018.

Last June, Haftar’s “general command” gave six months for the politicians to end the crisis in the country before using military might.

“After the end of the deadline, we will start working on ending the crisis in Libya by military actions, which Commander Haftar sees it best way to tackle the current situation.” He told Al-Youm newspaper in Egypt.

He also said it is not possible for elections to be held next March as per the Paris agreement between Haftar and Fayez Al-Sirraj – the Head of the Presidential Council.

“If all the current initiatives and the efforts of Salame failed, maybe we could return to holding elections as per Paris agreement.” Al-Masmari remarked in a paradoxical manner.

Observers say these threats are a response by Haftar to Salame’s statement about holding elections in 2018 if the negotiations about the executive authorities in Libya failed.

On the UNSMIL's Facebook page, Salame said Tuesday "we are going to elections in Libya in 2018," adding that the aim of the UN action plan is the accord that will ensue stability in Libya and an end to economic and humanitarian problems.
