The Director of the Coast Security Department of the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Tariq Shanbour, said that Libya is a transit country for immigrants, which increases the likelihood that other parties are involved in the human trafficking phenomenon.

This came in a televised statement in which Shnebour responded to an international report accusing the Interior Ministry of turning a blind eye on the human traffickers.

He said that the presence of other parties in the Libyan territory indicates that “we do not bear responsibility alone, further more it proves that Libya is a victim too.”

He added that the accusations against the Ministry of Interior on the smuggling of human beings cannot be recognized, except when it is brought before the prosecution and the judiciary, pointing out that the Libyan state has been subjected to a disinformation campaign by the media aimed to achieve questionable objectives that are being planned for in the dark.
