The Libyan Coast Guard managed to foil two separate attempts by migrants on Friday to reach European shores by rubber dinghies.

The Spokesman for the Chief of Staff of the navy said that the Ubari patrol boat of the Libyan Coast Guard also managed to rescue 114 migrants of varying nationalities, mainly of African and Arab origins, having received a distress call, who were trying to reach European shores on board a rubber dinghy.

The rescue boat ‘Fezzan’ was also capable of rescuing 81 illegal immigrants, also attempting to make their way to European shores on a similar vessel as the other 114 migrants rescued by the Ubari.

The Spokesman added that the rescued migrants were disembarked at the Tripoli Naval Base landing point, prior to being transferred to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, who were tasked with completing the correct procedures for deportation to their countries of origin.
