The Libyan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has urged its UAE counterpart to intervene with the UAE government to set free the Libyan businessmen detained there.

The head of the chamber Mohammed Al-Rayad said that the UAE businessmen should mediate to their authorities so as to release the detained Libyan businessmen and simultaneously close the black era page between the two countries, according to him.

Six Libyan businessmen have been detained in the UAE for more than a year without charges.

Last month, the Salvation Government denounced the arbitrary arrest and torture of the Libyan detainees, urging the UAE authorities to set them free immediately.

The health of the detainees is deteriorating with reports of physical inhumane torture, regular interrogation, sleep deprivation, psychological torture, malnutrition, solitary confinement and unhygienic cell conditions.
