The Libyan Center for Freedom of Press (LCFP) issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the prohibition of certain media outlets from covering the Edi Al-Fitr prayer at Tripoli Martyrs Square on Sunday.

The LCFP slammed personnel of the Tripoli National Security Department of the UN-proposed government's Interior Ministry for obstructing cameramen and preventing them from filming the Eid prayer.

"Two media teams were dismissed from the square; the first from Libyan Cloud News Agency and the second was from Al-Jazeera Mubasher TV channel." The LCFP's statement reads.

It adds that the team of the Libyan Cloud News Agency was told that it had no authorized license to work at the Martyrs Square, despite the fact that they had an authorized license and IDs from the Tripoli Foreign Media Office.

Whereas Al-Jazeera Mubasher TV channel's team was told that there are instructions that oblige them to dismiss them from the square and prevent them from working in the area.

"This is an outlandishly clear restriction of press work in Libya against a number of selectively chosen media outlets." The LCFP explained.

It added that some freelance photographers also complained to the center that they were disallowed to shoot freely at the Eid Al-Fitr prayer last Sunday.

Lately, arrests, obstruction and restriction of media coverage have been on the raise with some cases of beating journalists and confiscating equipment.

On the records of the LCFP, there are over 25 assaults on press teams in the first half of 2017, let alone verbal attacks and badmouthing of journalists and photographers, especially in the areas where there are continuous military conflicts.
