The Libyan Red Crescent has been selected for the membership of the Governing Board of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as a representative of the African continent.

Libya was elected for a four-year term by 111 votes, the highest in this election, during the twenty-first session of the General Assembly of the International Federation.

The event was concluded Monday in Antalya, Turkey, with the presence of 190 National Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies from across the world.

This election provided an opportunity for the Libyan Red Crescent to assist in formulating international humanitarian strategies in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The award is a culmination of the tireless efforts made by the volunteers, the leadership of the Young Society and the dedicated staff, and a milestone of a 60-year long-standing humanitarian institution with branches in 35 cities and regions in Libya.

The Libyan Red Crescent was represented by the President of the General Assembly, Osama Al Fadheli, Chairman of the Board, Omar Ajouda, Director of International Relations Taha Al Barghouthi, and the Director of the Youth and Volunteers Office, Amir Al Ammar.

The IFRC holds meetings every four years to choose the Governing Board of the International Federation, which consists of 25 members, including the President of the Federation and its four deputies, as well as 20 representatives of the National Societies of four geographical regions: Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe.
