Chairman of Presidential Council Fayez Sarraj and Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat held joint talks in Malta on Monday over the ongoing war on Tripoli and ways of enhancing the two countries’ cooperation.
According to the Media Office of Presidential Council, Muscat reiterated his country’s support to the Government of National Accord (GNA) and rejected the offensive on Tripoli, saying there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis.
He also stressed the need to resume UN-brokered political talks to settle the crisis.
“The Maltese are and have been close to the Libyan people, both because of the proximity of our two countries, but also because we have always considered Libyans as close friends, almost family,” he said, according to Times of Malta.
Sarraj said the GNA was forced to engage in the war to defend the capital and its people, and it will continue the fight until the attackers return to their pre-offensive bases.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations over the mutual cooperation. They also agreed to reactivate health cooperation to facilitate the treatment of GNA wounded soldiers in Malta.
“The two sides agreed to resume commercial flights between the two countries soon”, the Media Office reported.
