The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela signed Thursday an MoU in combatting illegal immigration and consolidating bilateral relations as the latter visited Tripoli to also discuss European Union's Operation IRINI that aims to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya.

Al-Sarraj and Abela reviewed the ongoing developments in Libya and discussed Operation IRINI, agreeing that it should take into account the reservations of both Libya and Malta about its work.

Al-Sarraj hailed Malta's support for the Government of National Accord and hoped cooperation will grow bigger between the two countries, reiterating to Abela that GNA forces are determined to defeat the aggression on Tripoli and all other cities so the country can regain stability and Libyans can have a democratic civilian state.

Abela reaffirmed Malta's support for GNA and rejection to the war on Tripoli, saying there is no military solution to the conflict, which he said can only be solved through political dialogue.

"We look forward to activating bilateral relations in all fields." Abela said, as he and Al-Sarraj agreed to speed up activation of cooperation agreements in all fields and to cooperate in combatting the Coronavirus pandemic.
