Member of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdallah El Lafi, has reviewed with Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese files of common concern, including combating organized crime, human trafficking, and illegal immigration.

During his meeting Tuesday with the Italian Interior Minister in Rome, El Lafi discussed cooperation in the security field and programs to upgrade Libya's security cadres.

The Italian minister praised Libya's efforts in combating human trafficking and limiting illegal immigration.

She also commended the Libyan Ministry of Interior for its efforts in implementing the approved security protocols, revealing that the EU is ready to issue positive indicators on the stability of Libya.

Lamorgese confirmed that her country would continue cooperation with Libya in various fields, most notably the previously agreed projects, such as the Ras Ajdir-Imsaed Highway Road.

In a related context, Al-Lafi discussed with the Italian Minister of Justice, Marta Cartapia, the agreement for transferring those sentenced to a penalty of deprivation of liberty, which was reviewed during the past period by the relevant committees, in preparation for signing it by Ministers of Justice of both sides.

The agreement stipulates the exchange of convicts between the two countries, which will allow Libyans to complete their sentences in their homeland.

The meeting also addressed other issues, such as the cases brought by Italian companies against the Libyan state.

In this context, El Lafi called on the Italian Minister of Justice to consider the issue from a broader political perspective through the agreements signed between the two countries.

He emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation between Libya and Italy, praising the latter’s role in supporting political stability and security in Libya.
