An armed group from Surman affiliated with the so-called Tribes Army tried Sunday to enter Surman city, 60km to the west of Tripoli, with full military equipment, Libya Dawn military sources have indicated.

The Western Operations Room has clarified that the armed group wanted to return to their houses without any coordination with the city’s revolutionaries or the Operations Room, which triggered a fire exchange between the armed group and the revolutionaries with no casualties reported.

“The armed group retreated back to the south of Surman amidst some urgent negotiations being held by the mayor of Surman and the city’s Military Council with the armed group, which consists of seven armed vehicles, to facilitate their return to their houses after handing over their weapons peacefully.” The Western Operations Room added.

Meanwhile, a number of volunteers in the Tribes Army, who come from Surman city, have recently come back to their houses upon hearing of the government amnesty for those who hand over their weapons to the authorities.
