Libya's mission to the United Nations condemned the military escalation of the Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian people during a session at the UN HQ in New York on Tuesday.

The mission expressed concern about the Israeli policy of expanding Jewish settlements and demolishing Palestinian buildings and homes.

The statement highlighted the unjust and aggressive actions against the Palestinians, including building walls to besiege Palestinian areas and the numerous roadblocks, checkpoints, and permission restrictions that constrain the freedom of movement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

The session was devoted to establishing the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.

Libya affirmed its position in support of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

"Libya calls for an urgent end to the occupation and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement on all tracks, as well as backing all Palestinian decisions that reject the repressive practices of the occupying authority."

Tensions on the ground are boiling up in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem as the occupying forces intensified raids, killings, and arrests of Palestinians under a military operation aimed at crushing the phenomenon of growing armed resistance, which now appears to be spreading to Jerusalem.
