Celebrations to mark the 5th anniversary of Libya's 2011 revolution, that toppled the former tyrannical regime of Gaddafi, were held in several cities and towns across the country on Tuesday and being held on Wednesday.

Hundreds of thousands of people marched in the streets cheering and chanting pro-February revolution slogans.

In Tripoli, an official ceremony held at GNC headquarters to mark this occasion in addition to celebrate the amendment of all Libyan laws and regulations in accordance with the Sharia law. It was attended by GNC President Nuri Abu Sahmain, Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq Al-Gharyani and Prime Minister Khalifa Al-Ghawiel, in addition to many government officials, GNC members and heads of diplomatic missions in Tripoli.

Many speeches were delivered during the celebration. Tripoli's revolutionaries said they are in favor of the amendment by the GNC of all Libyan laws to comply with the Sharia. They expressed commitment to Libya's sovereignty and rejection to UN-imposed government led by Fayaz Sirraj. They also deplored terrorism of all its forms and called all the revolutinaries to unite to maintain Libya's unity.

Libya's Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq Al-Gharyani hailed in his speech the amendment of laws, calling for applying the Sharia in all aspects of life.

It's the greatest work done by the GNC, says the Mufti, calling for an urgent action against criminals and street robbers.

"It's unacceptable, there must be a way to protect the people, we must punish the criminals." He added.

For his part, GNC President Nuri Abu Sahmain commended the victories of Derna Shura Council over ISIS, reiterating the GNC commitment to fight terrorism, illegal immigration, and counter-revolution.

Meanwhile, 2 people were killed and 16 others were injured in the southern city of Sabha when rockets fell on a tent during the celebration of 17 February revolution. Gaddafi loyalists in the city are believed to be behind the shelling.
