The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that his country maintains relations with all the leading political forces in Libya.

Lavrov gave a speech before the 11th Middle East conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club, which was read out by his deputy Mikhail Bogdanov.

"We maintain sustainable and balanced ties with all leading political forces in the west, east, and south of Libya."

The top Russian diplomat expressed hope that the postponement of the general elections meant to take place on December 24, 2021, will not provoke an escalation of military and political tensions or slow down the political process.

He said Russia is trying to push Libyan politicians toward constructive dialogue to reach a compromise solution.

He also highlighted that there were no high-intensity combat operations in Libya for more than a year, describing this as a significant positive change.

"With the support of the international community, Libyans are gradually overcoming the mistrust that has piled up over the years of turmoil, and are learning to talk to each other and make concessions."
