The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow had a very significant role in the current calm prevailing in Libya due to its coordination with Turkey.

Lavrov indicated at Rome Med 2020 - Mediterranean Dialogues - that saying Russia and Turkey are supporting opposing forces in the Libyan conflict would be an oversimplification, adding that it would be very stupid and wrongful to say Russia backs up Khalifa Haftar and Turkey supports Fayez Al-Sarraj.

"This is a very primitive rendering of the situation in Libya and any respected analyst would say that such a description would be an oversimplification of the status quo." Lavrov added.

The Russian Foreign Minister said the settlement of the conflict in Libya should see the interests of all foreign players respected, adding that this what was achieved by Moscow and Ankara as well as other foreign players in Libya.
