The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the stances of the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and the Speaker of Tobruk-based House of Representatives Aqila Saleh in last August played an important role in restarting the political process.

Lavrov said in a meeting with Saleh in Moscow that despite certain difficulties, the Libyan political process "continues and gains momentum."

He added that Russia is interested in resuming full bilateral cooperation with Libya in all areas, saying the sooner post-conflict settlement is completed and normal post-conflict life begins, the quicker they will be able to resume bilateral cooperation in all areas: energy, transport infrastructure, as well as economic and investment projects in general for the benefit of Libyan and Russian peoples.

"The ceasefire has been observed for quite a lengthy period of time. Russia particularly welcomes the determination to include all key political forces and all regions into the settlement process." Lavrov explained.

Meanwhile, Saleh expressed hope that general elections would be held in Libya by the end of 2021, stressing the need for consensus among warring parties to ensure stability in areas under their separate control.

The Speaker of Tobruk-based HoR arrived in Moscow and met with Lavrov Tuesday upon an invitation from the Russian government, according to the spokesman for the HoR Abdullah Blehiq.
