The UN envoy to Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Jan Kubis stressed the importance of holding the House of Representatives session on Monday, 8 March, saying it is another important step towards restoring the unity and legitimacy of Libya’s institutions and authorities, in order to achieve the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Libya.

Kubis emphasises that this session, which was called for by the House of Representatives Speaker, Aqila Saleh, to thoroughly discuss and eventually consider a vote of confidence to the cabinet line-up proposed by Prime-Minister designate Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah.

Kubis said these efforts must not be derailed under any pretext, including through the circulation of fake news, such as the text message circulated Sunday about the UN investigation of bribery allegations.

Social media activists circulated a screenshot of a WhatsApp message claiming to be sent from UNSMIL to HoR members saying: "Investigations proved the bribes to Libyan Political Dialogue Forum members had happened and two reports were sent to the Security Council, as one of the reports will be published on March 15."
