The coastal road between Tripoli and Al-Zawiya is not secure, the Director of Janzour Security, Colonel Mohamed Ashour, declared, calling on the passers-by and travelers to Tunisia to take care while driving on the road.

Colonel Ashour blamed both the Ministry of Defense and Interior for the deterioration of security on this road, referring to the high rate of crime and robbery there.

He added that the joint forces in charge of the road security is not fulfilling their commitment of securing the road as per the recent truce signed with the Tribes Army, which gave way for the return of the outlaw gangs to disturb stability and security in the region.

The area between Janzour and Al-Zawiya is now under the control of the Tribes Army, a pro- Dignity Operation force, following the withdrawal of Libya Dawn forces from the area in implementation to the truce signed  between the Tribes Army and Al-Halboos battalion from Misrata.

Many civilians were robbed and arrested on identity while traveling via the road. Last week, three people were kidnapped; one of them was freed after a ransom of 150,000LYD was paid to the kidnappers. Unfortunately, his companions were executed under torture.

In addition, some diplomatic missions were also subjected to gunpoint robbery on that road. Last May, the convoy of the Ukrainian Ambassador, Mykola Nahorny, was robbed in Al-Maya district while traveling from Tripoli to Tunisia. Also, A convoy of the British Embassy escaped a robbery attempt last year while the embassy was evacuating its staff following the breakout of fighting between Libya Dawn forces and Zintani forces, supporters of Dignity Operation, on the Airport Road.
