The Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, has called for a security plan that would guarantee the safety for the firm that will carry out the work of "The Alternative Road" (Sahili) that extends from Imsaad to Marij in eastern Libya.

The remarks came in a meeting for the Minister of Transport Milad Ma'atoug with the ambassador in Tripoli on Sunday in the presence of the director of the highway road project Imsaad-Ras Ajadir Sami Al-Sadi.

The meeting went over the preparations for kicking off the Alternative Road project with the Italian firm.

The media office of Ministry of Transport said the meeting resulted in agreement for a new meeting in the coming days for reviewing security measures, adding that the ambassador stressed on the need for serious security plans.

The new road project covers the area from Imsaad in the far east of Libya to Ras Ajdair in its far west. Libya gave the project to Italy as part of the Italian occupation compensation deal which is part of the 2008 Italy-Libya Friendship Agreement.
