Italy is encouraging Libya to prepare for fresh elections without entering another transitional phase.

The position of the Italian government was conveyed by the Italian envoy Nicola Orlando and Italy's Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Buccino, who met with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah at his office on Monday in the presence of Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush.

A statement by the Government of National Unity on Facebook said the meeting touched on the latest developments in the Libyan political scene and the electoral process.

They also discussed bilateral relations and the importance of developing them, especially in the fields of health, energy, and combating illegal immigration, in addition to completing agreed-upon strategic projects.

PM Dbeiba highlighted the "significant change" that Libya has experienced, in the course of stability and development, emphasizing that his government continues to support all efforts aimed at establishing a new authority elected by the people.
