Italy has named Giuseppe Buccino as the new ambassador to Libya to replace Giuseppe Perrone, who will be the new Italian ambassador to Iran, The Italian news agency AKI reported

The new incumbent was Italy's ambassador in Tripoli between September 2011 and February 2015.

Italian Senate urged earlier the Foreign Minister to clarify the stance of Perrone, whether he would be returned to Libya or another ambassador would be appointed.

They cited the fact that their embassy in Tripoli had been lacking leadership position for moths.

Perrone's leave was justified by Italy as "linked to security purposes" after discomfort broke in Libya over his statements to a local channel about the "right time for elections."

Libyans said at the time that Perrone was intervening in domestic affairs.

Eastbased Interim Government, Parliament and Khalifa Haftar loyalists all declared Perrone a persona non grata.
