Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah discussed with his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi bilateral ties and advancing cooperation in priority files during the latter's visit to Tripoli today.

"We agreed on the importance of signing the Libyan-Italian partnership agreement and the exchange of flights between the two countries, Dbeibah said during a joint press conference with Draghi.

According to Dbeibah, the two sides agreed to facilitate Italian visa procedures so Libyans can obtain it from inside Libya.

He also indicated that they had reached an understanding with the Italian side to support the security and health sector in Libya and exchange experiences in the energy and electricity field.

"The activation of the Italian Treaty of Friendship is one of the most important files to start with, especially the section regarding the highway project, PM Dbeibah noted.

Among the primary issues discussed was the immigration file, in which Dbeibah insisted that migration is a global problem and Libya should not be left to face it alone.

For his part, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi considered his visit to Libya as an opportunity to rebuild the historical friendship between the two nations, stressing that it carries special significance as it is his first visit abroad since he took office last February.

"The foremost requirement in Libya is the continuation of the ceasefire agreement and to continue to closely monitor this process," Draghi said.

He also emphasized that it is important for the European Union to assist Libya in the migration issue.
