Italian sources revealed that the agreement with Libya regarding the transfer of convicted citizens, from both countries to serve the remainder of their sentences in their respective countries of origin is not likely to be included in the agenda of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who is due to visit Rome next Monday, 31 May.

The same sources indicated, according to the Italian Nova News Agency on May 28 that Dbeibah may possibly be accompanied by four or five ministers of the GNU during his visit, whilst at least two agreements are set to be signed.

Nova said, quoting its sources, that discussions have been underway for some time to develop a strong partnership in the energy sector, adding that the matter is related to a new long-term agreement, which may include the establishment of new power stations for the production of renewable energy in Fezzan, a vast region in southwestern Libya rich in natural resources.

The sources referred to the reactivation of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tripoli, along with other important initiatives, such as the introduction of the study of Italian language courses in secondary schools in Libya.
