An Italian marine force Sunday intercepted a Libyan oil tanker in the territorial waters.

Oil sources said a military helicopter landed a group of Italian marines who searched the oil tanker Anwar Africa near Bouri Offshore Field, and then released it after two hours of inspection.

‘The sources added that aim of interception was to collect information about the ships and boats suspected of smuggling Libyan fuel abroad.

The Libyan Navy did not comment on the incident.

Anwar Africa is the largest oil tanker owned by Libyan Marine Transport Company. In May, the tanker was bombed by Dignity Operation air force off Al-Khalij power station in Sirte.
