The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh has considered the Government of National Unity (GN) an expired government, urging for the reshuffling of the cabinet.

In a session for the HoR in Tobruk on Monday, Saleh called on the Public Prosecutor to investigate the expenditures of the Government of National Unity from the chapters of development and emergency of the budget.

The Speaker of the HoR adding that the Central Bank and control authorities should not allow funds to go to the government without a prior permission by the financial committee of the HoR.

He added that the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) should put pressure on all parties to resort to elections and accept their results.

Saleh also indicated that the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) should present the amendments necessary for the elections process to the HoR, adding that the HNEC, despite being ready for the process on the technical level, had surprisingly issued a statement postponing the vote due to force majeure.

He reiterated that the HoR cannot remain silent toward attempts to impose the rejected draft of the Libyan constitution, which was refused by all social components in the country.

Saleh also instructed the formation of a 30-person committee of constitutional law experts from the three regions of Libya to devise a new constitution with the assistance of national and international expertise.

He said the period of tasks for the new 30-person committee extends one month from the date of appointment without overlapping with or affecting the electoral process.
