The Speaker of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh has asked the High Representative of the European Union (EU) Josep Borrell, in a meeting in Al-Qubba, to provide EU support to consolidate the ceasefire and make oil revenues in the country an unbiased issue.

The spokesman of the HoR Abdullah Blehiq said Saleh asked for the EU's help in depositing Libyan oil revenues in a frozen account until a unity government is formed, urging Borrell to pressure all parties to end the political crisis and end the suffering of people, which he said would only come through forming a new government.

Saleh also met with the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio and discussed developments in Libya and the need to reach a political settlement for the conflict.

The HoR spokesman said di Maio reiterated to Saleh Italy's support for a political solution in the country, saying Rome was convinced that oil revenues should be frozen until a unified political leadership was formed, so when they would be distributed, Libyans could benefit from them.

Borrell met also the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj and the Chairman of National Oil Corporation Mustafa Sanallah as well as many other GNA officials in Tripoli.
