Members and heads of disabled people's organizations (DPOs) met on Wednesday with Speaker of the Tripoli-based House of Representatives (HoR), Hammouda Siyala, to discuss issues related to persons with disabilities.

The organizations included "Zaykom Zayna" for the rights of persons with disabilities, "Tuor" for Human Rights, "Thekra" for the rights of disabled children, "Nour Association" for the blind, and the Libyan Federation of Deaf Associations, according to the HoR media office.

The DPOs highlighted a set of topics that address their daily struggle, including arrears in the payment of wages and social benefits. They also touched upon concerns related to their civil, economic, political, and social rights.

Among their demands was to enforce the legislation relating to the rights and care of the disabled and to adopt further measures that would enhance their access to better employment opportunities and the exercise of their civil and political rights.

The representatives presented a proposal which outlines a vision for improving the quality of life of persons with disability, hoping that decision makers will review their problems and take the appropriate actions to ease their suffering.
