The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives for Sabha city, Musbah Doma, accused the self-styled Libyan Armed Forces Command, which is led by renegade General Khalifa Haftar, of fueling the conflict in Sabha.

“Haftar is trying to take advantage of the tribal clashes within Sabha and turn it into a political one.” Doma added

Doma told Bawabat Al-Wasat news website, which is affiliated with Dignity Operation, on Wednesday that the intervention of Haftar forces will plunge Sabha in a never-ending conflict and thus will undermine the reconciliation efforts exerted by the notables and elders, who came from everywhere in Libya to help put an end to the fight between the next of kins.

“Dignity Operation military vehicles were seen in the clashes zones in Sabha in the very first day of the fight, so we had contacted the “General Command” and they told us the vehicles were given to Nasir Benjarid and he stole them and used them in Sabha conflict.” Doma added, saying they said so without issuing any details about the alleged stealing or any arrest warrant of the officer who sold the vehicles.

He elaborated saying that if this jumbled mumbled claim by the Dignity Operation could mean anything, it would be that their fighters are not well-disciplined and don’t follow the commands of their chiefs, adding that this will be a very perilous sign meaning that the state resources will be used to fuel conflicts in the southern region and beyond.

The HoR member confirmed that they sent a letter to the HoR and the Speaker, Aqilah Saleh, did not reply and he said “he would send a reconciliation delegation, but his orders are always at odds with his words” according to Doma.

“Haftar and his followers are trying to take the edge of the Sabha clashes by appointing biased leaderships to the city. Some of those leaderships are part of one side of the conflict and they are fighting for it.” He indicated.

He concluded saying that the HoR and its “Libyan Armed Forces General Command” bear the responsibility for worsening and politicalizing the Sabha conflict, which he said he was watching closely, adding that reconciliation efforts have now gone over half the way through toward a permanent truce.
