The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) Jaballah Al-Shibani, has been the talk of the town in Libya over the last 24 hours after he described the Libyan February revolution of 2011 as "a disaster."

The bold description of Libya’s revolution that killed the long-time dictator Moamar Gaddafi was uttered by Al-Shibani – elected to represent Tawergha – during Monday's HoR meeting, where he said that he thinks of the revolution as “incidents” and when confronted by a colleague MP, he said “it is a disaster.”

“We need to regain the spirits during the incidents in 2011,” Al-Shibani said.

“No, it is called February revolution. The great Libyan revolution.” An MP at the HoR meeting shut Al-Shibani up.

“That’s what you say. I call it the calamity and the disaster of February.” Al-Shibani boldly added.

Reactions from ordinary Libyans and officials were all in protest of the mere insult of a presumable voice of the people who was elected to be an HoR member because of the very “disaster” – February revolution – he was talking in contempt about, lashing out at him since he is benefiting off the revolution with 16.000 dinars as a salary while insulting it at the same time.

“He is biting the hand that feeds him.” Most Libyans commented on social media.

Meanwhile, as first official reaction to the issue, the HoR issued Monday an order to form a committee of HoR members to question Al-Shibani for the insult he uttered against the revolution that ended tyranny and allowed him a vent of freedom to become an elected MP.
