The member of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) for Benghazi Jalal Al-Shuwaihdi has asked the UN Security Council to probe the kidnapping of HoR member Siham Sirgiwa by Khalifa Haftar's forces.

Al-Shuwaihdi said in his Facebook page on Tuesday that his letter to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for investigating all forced disappearances and crimes against politicians, and activists who reject Haftar's views in Benghazi.

"UNSMIL's role is very crucial in Libya and thus it should be reconsidered to ensure its neutrality." He added.

A probe into the kidnap was also demanded by HoR members, High Council of State (HCS) and Presidential Council members, said HCS member Idriss Abu Fayed.

"Sirgiwa has a political immunity and her kidnappers must be brought to justice. The perpetrators must be part of Haftar's forces as they have details about her location." Abu Fayed added.

Sirgiwa's abduction stirred lots of reactions inside and outside Libya, including the UNSMIL, EU and other countries, which all called for her immediate release and punishment for the perpetrators.
